Alpha Lipoic Acid, or ALA, is a natural compound that acts as an antioxidant in the body. ALA has shown some promise as a supplement for enhancing the body's ability to use it's own insulin to lower blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. In europe ALA has been used for years for the burning, tingling and numbing sensations caused by diabetic neuropathy. ALA also plays roles in enzymatic activity and celular transport.
